The system is intended for separating oil out of oil-water mixtures, in particular bilge water. The system is certified in accordance with IMO resolution MEPC.107(49). The BilgeProtect is a two-stage separator with continuous, reliable operation. The step-by-step separation takes place in a common pressure vessel.
1. Stage: Pre-Coalescing Stage
In the first stage the dispersion (water and oil) flows through a packing of firm synthetic fleece. This packing initially provides a flow rectification. Due to the intensive phase contact of the droplets on the fibers of the fleece, coalescence of most of the oil droplets and thus phase separation and settling in the gravitational field are increasingly occurring. The coalesced oil phase is removed via a separate valve. The water with the low oil content is directed to the second coalescer stage.
2. Stage: Efficiency Stage
In the second stage the emulsion from the first stage flows through coalescing elements from the inside to the outside. The finest oil droplets coalesce in a microfibre bed to form large oil drops which rise up into the oil collecting chamber.
The medium is nearly oil-free at the tank outlet
